What to look for in a moving company

First and foremost the most important thing when looking for a removal company is the BAR badge. The British Association of Removers is the trade association that removal companies strive to be a part of and have to meet certain criteria, not just join but these standards must be maintained to stay as a member. Companies are inspected on a regular basis by independent assessors to make sure things such as training is undertaken and the correct insurances are in place.

It is clear that for a lot of people the main thing they are looking for is price, “The bottom line”, but should you trust all your worldly goods and possessions to someone whose only quality is they were the cheapest?

Would you choose the cheapest car?
or the cheapest holiday?

I’m not saying price doesn’t come into it, so that is why you should always get three quotes for a removal to be able to compare the service you are going to get and when we say compare make sure that you are looking at a like for like situation.

• Are they BAR Members?
• Personal Recommendation. Do you know someone who has used them recently?
• If you are storing with them do they have their own warehouses?
• Where did you find them?

So many advertisements today can mislead you, internet listings positions are often based on who pays the most for the advert. Some would say that a company that doesn’t need to advertise is the best.

• Would you feel comfortable being the only diner in a restaurant?
• Why isn’t anyone else eating here?
• What do they know that I don’t?

It is the same with Removal companies; the better ones get booked up in advance. Getting your quotations in early can certainly help you to get your choice of mover and not just the one who is left with space on the date you are given to move.

You know where you are moving to and where you are moving from, the only variable is the date and that will not affect the cost of the move unless it is a weekend or a Bank Holiday, so get your quote in early . Don’t wait until you have exchanged contracts it could be too late by then. This is time well spent because when you get that call from the agent or the solicitor to say it is all go for the 14th with your mover of choice having all your details in his possession you will be ahead of the rest and more likely to get booked in swiftly.

Do your homework and you will get fully trained and insured movers and you won’t end up with a man and a van.
